OCTOBER 10 / Blowback on Georgsson-gate

THE "COMMENT" feature on "UNCA DARRELL" is almost useless, so good comments sometimes disappear. Here's one worth turning into a post, lightly edited. (I don't like to run links, but I'll make an exception here.)

Rorschach on "Newspaper ethics . . ."

The Kase/Cohen relationship may not be an uber-secret, but it certainly is not well advertised. It has been mentioned ten times from the archives I've found. The most recent was in February 2006 in a case concerning a bowling ally slaying 26 years earlier. The defendant was represented by Ms. Kase. It was of course a death penalty case. http://www.chron.com/CDA/archives/archive.mpl?id=2006_4057135)

And again in connection with the Soffar case in December 2005. (http://www.chron.com/CDA/archives/archive.mpl?id=2005_4029002)

And again in connection with Charles Raby's lethal injection lawsuit in November 2005. (http://www.chron.com/CDA/archives/archive.mpl?id=2005_4016977)

Then there is a string of stories between 7-15-04 through 6-2-04 (in reverse chronological order) concerning the DNA crime lab fiasco that mentions their relationship.

The very first mention of their relationship was in a blurb announcing the retirement of Jack Loftis and Cohen's importation from the Albany Times-Union to take the position, where Kase worked at Crane, Parente, & Cherubin as a criminal defense attorney.

Gee I wonder who the "hypothetical" case mentioned elsewhere might be talking about....Hmm....

For more from Rorschach, including a swell review of the Chronicle's "Newroom Ethics Policy," go here.
