THIS GRAPH depicts the net liberalism or conservatism of six American classes since 1972. Every group has become more conservative except one.
And that one is . . .
. . . the "Intellectual Upper Class."
Defining characteristics: non-Latino white in the 95th percentile of income with a graduate degree, employed as a lawyer, academic, scientist, writer, member of the news media, or creative person in film or television.
Charles Murray surmises that the Intellectual Upper Class "won the election with a candidate who sounded centrist running against an exceptionally weak Republican opponent."
He also says this class lives in a bubble and mistakenly believes most Americans share their political views.

UPDATE: Thanks for the link from Lose an Eye.
. . . an exceptionally weak Republican opponent who followed a tremendously disliked Republican president.
