WORD IS that veteran Chronicle reporter Alan Bernstein has given notice and will soon go to work for Harris County Sheriff Adrian Garcia.
He is a pro who served two different stints as political writer. His institutional memory, generosity toward fellow reporters, and professionalism will be missed at a newspaper with ever-thinning ranks of old-timers.
Like all reporters who go over to the dark side, however, his recent stories on Mr. Garcia are now fair game for review and commentary.
