FOR THE COMMENTS section of both the [Boston] Globe and The Houston Chronicle, readers seem to have a better nose for news than the J-school bores.
(Mark Steyn, "Tree-Ring Circus," The Corner, November 24, 2009)
Brother Steyn is laughing, of course, about the newspaper's laughable global-warming editorial of recent days and to the blizzard of reader criticism it provoked.
Click through Mr. Steyn's link to the Chronicle and you'll be wisked to a P.J. Gladnick post at NewsBusters, "Climategate: MSM Writers Try to Ignore Scandal in Global Warming Stories But Readers Bring Them Back to Reality."
Efforts by major media -- specifically including the Chronicle -- to ignore Climategate are "hilariously bizarre," Mr. Gladnick writes, pretty much covering the subject. His clickthrough leads back to the editorial itself or, more precisely, to the scalding hot comments section.
Glen Reynolds at Instapundit is also on the case, guaranteeing that many thousands more will get in on the hilarity.
Chronicle editors are not shy about referring every now and again to Texas as a national laughingstock.
Who knew they were working so assiduously to earn that honor?
