What happens a reporter makes an error? An editor is supposed to catch it and correct it. A failure of editorial oversight produced this embarrassing sentence in the New York Times: 

OCTOBER 31 / President Jefferson was on his way to . . .

. . . church of a Sunday morning with his large red prayer book under his arm when . . . 

OCTOBER 30 / How about giving a few bucks this weekend to . . .

. . . the USO Auxiliary. Why?

Because . . .

I posted yesterday about how Houston Chronicle management rewrote Bradley Olson's analysis of Bill White's tenure as Houston mayor. The purpose of the rewrite was to make the Democratic gubernatorial candidate look better.

Now let's consider what it means when a big-city newspaper takes sides, politicallly, on its front page.
