Mr. Holly and the original Crickets appeared on Ed Sullivan in December 1957, the breakout year for the group. The rhythm guitarist is Niki Sullivan, the bass player Joe B. Mauldin, and the guy tearing up the drum kit is Jerry Allison, who married the real Peggy Sue Gerron. Mr. Holly is not wearing his trademark hornrim glasses. He bought them in January 1958.
