THAT'S THE SENATE makeup after November's elections -- 52 Republicans, 48 Democrats -- if . . .
. . . you start with Real Clear Politics's sure things, leaners, and likelies (46 Republicans, 45 Democrats), then assign the nine RCP toss-ups to the party now leading (6 Republicans, 3 Democrats).
The Democrats are Begich (Alaska, 4.6%), Udall (Colorado, 1.0%), and Peters (Michigan, 3.8%).
The Republicans are Cotton (Arkansas, 1.7%), Perdue (Georgia, 3.8%), Ernst (Iowa, 0.2%), McConnell (Kentucky, 2.5%), Cassidy (Louisiana, 1.0%), and Tillis (North Carolina (1.0%).
Let's use this as a baseline as we watch the fall campaign season unfold. We'll have some fun, but fun ain't the point. The future of America is.
