. . . home-field advantages in college football belong to Texas teams. So says Prediction Machine, "a statistical outlet that simulates games," as reported in the nation's very best newspaper sports page . . .
. . . the Wall Street Journal. The study covers games since 2000.
The big winner, first in Texas and nationwide, is the North Texas Mean Green, 5.94 points better at home than on the road. "This doesn't suggest the Mean Green are necessarily good at winning football games at home -- in fact, they've gone only 39-40 since 2000 -- but rather that they've been better than expected, based on the team's total performance."
Other Texas over-achiever homebodies are the Baylor Bears, sixth nationally, 5.18 points, and the Rice Owls, seventh, 5.12.
Three of ten. Exactly the same number of the last ten presidents who were from Texas. Coincidence?
