. . . the Biden/Harris ticket:
Kamala Harris believes membership in the Knights of Columbus disqualifies a nominee to serve as federal judges.
"Since 1933," she wrote to one judicial nominee, "you have . . .
. . . been a member of the Knights of Columbus, an all-male society comprised primarily of Catholic men. Were you aware that the Knights of Columbus opposed a woman's right to choose when you joined the organization?"
An account of this incident appears in Adam O'Neal, "Harris vs. the Knights of Columbus," The Wall Street Journal, August 20, 2020.
The Knights of Columbus isn't a secretive political group but a Catholic fraternal organization. It has some two million members, councils around the world, and no partisan affiliation. It focuses on charity and has assisted persecuted Christians in the Middle East. Catholics who go to Mass probably have attended a Knights of Columbus pancake breakfast, and hundreds of thousands have bought life insurance from the group.
Sen. Mazie Hirono of Hawaii went further than Ms. Harris and asked [the nominee], "Do you intend to end your membership with this organization to avoid any appearance of bias?" This overt religious test deserved the condemnation it received. Ms. Harris took a subtler approach but still effectively described adherence to orthodox Catholic views as incompatible with public service.
Democrats have already read pro-life advocates out of the party leadership. Now they plan to read pro-life advocates out of the judiciary. This is one with the party's general antagonism toward orthodox Christian doctrine, churches, and believers.
Isn't it time to consider voting for a party and candidate that show respect toward you and your faith?
