. . . but the time has come to stop blogging.
Not today, but soon. Two reasons:
In the last several weeks, for example, Diana and I have provided 24-hour care for my 97-year-old aunt, Elizabeth Hancock.
She died Sunday morning, less than two hours after our last session of caring for her needs.
We have since overseen the return of her hospice equipment, finalized arrangements with the funeral home, and engaged an attorney to handle probate.
Now we need to tend to our own affairs for awhile, then see if we can help other family members in need at this time.
Age-related cognitive decline is proceeding faster than I had hoped.
I think the mental and physical strain of caring for my aunt may have accelerated things. I'm having more trouble concentrating than before.
Whatever the reason, it's time to step away from the keyboard and discard the mountain of literature I had gathered as fuel for the fire in my essays.
I will do a couple of valedictory pieces in coming days. That will be it.
Wander away for a few days, you happy few, you band of brothers and sisters, then return for one more unforgettable dose of what's what from Unca D.
With love and appreciation for your giving me your custom,
Darrell Hancock
